ChaoticsThe Business of Managing and Marketing in the Age of Turbulence….. Philip Kotler & John A. Caslione

The book has its leanings from the US financial meltdown  (in 2008) and examines basic concerns and questions around ‘How deep the meltdown would likely be and How long  it could last?’  It helps understand a world economy that has seemingly become more fragile and interlocked from forces of globalization and technology, that few if any are able to  ascertain to a point of authority.

The authors study the financial meltdown problems to the forces that worked to create such an interlocked and fragile  world economy. They depict global interdependence as a force that works in everyone’s favor in good times but to rapidly spread  pain and damage in bad times – unleashing Turbulence. The book goes to show that Turbulence, with its consequent chaos, risk, and uncertainty, has become the “new normality” for industries, markets, and companies.

At the core is the outlook that we have entered into a climate of increased turbulence – into an entirely new era, into an age of increasingly frequent and intense periods of turbulence (in our global economy). Making it more fragile and more interlocked than ever before. Crises are now but to be expected and this has precipitated a compelling need for businesses to develop new mindsets –  one that takes into account intermittent periods of disturbance, allowing them to thrive while under the constant threat of chaos. Complete with metrics and measurements, “Chaotics” outlines a powerful new system for managing waves of uncertainty affecting customers, employees, and other stakeholders. .

Chaotics enables readers to better understand and lead their companies to maneuver, perform, and thrive in this new and complex global age.
